Nothing beats a meal where your best friend can sit right beside you. Below are ten tried-and-true spots around the Upper Valley that roll out the welcome mat for pups on their patios or decks. All are roughly a half-hour drive —or less—from the Green.

A Main-Street institution with plenty of umbrella-covered tables. Enjoy wood-fired pizzas, wings, and burgers while your dog lounges in the shade and enjoys an unsolicited ear scratch from passing students.

2. Ramunto’s Brick & Brew - Hanover, NH

Grab a hand-tossed slice (20+ specialty pies) and a local draft at one of the sidewalk tables reserved for four-legged guests. A steady stream of foot traffic keeps pups entertained between bites.

3. Murphy’s on the Green - Hanover, NH

A beloved Main Street staple where farm-fresh pub classics meet front-row campus views. Staff greet pups with a chilled water bowl while you tuck into favorites like Guinness-braised shepherd’s pie, maple-glazed salmon, or a perfectly charred steak frites.

4. Three Tomatoes Trattoria - Lebanon, NH

Only three patio tables—snag one early for wood-fired pizzas, antipasti, and pastas alongside the Mascoma River. Staff keep the dog biscuits flowing almost as steadily as the chianti.

5. Salt hill Pub - Lebanon, NH

Seasonal sidewalk seating, hearty pub classics (try the pulled-pork nachos), and live music most weekends. The servers are quick with fresh water and slower with judgment if your pup begs for fries.

6. Poor Thom’s Tavern - Plainfield, NH

Cozy tavern vibes, creative wood-fired pizzas, and a deck that welcomes dogs Tuesday–Saturday, 4–9 p.m. Perfect for sunset trivia while your pup soaks up compliments.

7. Trail Break Taps & Tacos - White River Junction, VT

A colorful, buzzing patio with 28 rotating taps and scratch-made tacos. Dogs are welcome seasonally; snag an early dinner slot if your pup prefers a quieter crowd.

8. Tuckerbox - White River Junction, VT

Turkish-inspired café serving kebabs, pastries, and strong coffee. Shaded outdoor tables appear once the frost melts—ideal for brunching with a sleepy pooch at your feet.

9. Harpoon Brewery - Windsor, VT

Spacious beer garden where dogs can sprawl while you tackle Bavarian pretzels, smash burgers, and seasonal drafts. Bonus: a quick loop around the Path of Life Sculpture Garden next door makes for a great pre-meal stroll.

10. Public House Pub - Quechee, VT

Year-round dog fun: classic summer patio seating plus heated igloos come winter, and—yes—a dedicated dog menu. It’s hard to beat a spot that gives your pup his own entrée.

Quick Tips for a Stress-Free Outing

  • Seasonality matters. Outdoor dining typically runs May–October; and outdoor service is weather-dependent in New England, so call ahead if clouds look dicey.

  • Pack the basics. A collapsible bowl, a short leash, and a small blanket go a long way toward canine comfort.

  • Aim for off-peak hours. Friday evenings in July can be packed; try a late lunch or early weeknight dinner for a quieter scene.

  • Practice good patio etiquette. A calm pup, a clean space, and plenty of “thank-yous” to staff help keep these patios dog-friendly for everyone.

Clip on the leash, grab some treats for the road, and enjoy your taste-testing tour—your pup will thank you with every wag.
